Silence Radio
Court Métrage
Réalisation : Kartik Singh (2016)
Synopsis : Nayla is a foreign student living in Europe. She has been a jazz enthusiast all her life, and she currently hosts a successful jazz show on her campus radio station. One day, a strange phone call comes into the program. She makes nothing of it, but then, Mr. Khan, an older man from her past, appears unannounced at her work. Apparently he had phoned in, and now he formally makes his request: to appear on the show to talk about the political situation in their country. It’s obvious he inspires fear in her. And disappointment, too. Nayla thought leaving the old country meant getting away from Mr. Khan’s brand of intimidation. Her inclination is to refuse him, since, for her, politics have no place in a jazz program. She tries to explain this to him, but he will not listen. He continues to pressure her, following her, leaving messages, and using veiled threats that slowly escalate. Clearly he will not give up, and if she refuses, there will be dire consequences.
